The Elbląg Canal is the longest navigable canal in Poland (about 144.3 km with branches) and a unique monument of hydrotechnical engineering. Its feature unique on a European scale is five inclined planes that replaced locks - vessels move on rails over land, overcoming considerable differences in level.
Five inclined planes (Buczyniec, Kąty, Oleśnica, Jelenie and Całuny) make it possible to overcome almost 100 m of level difference over a stretch of about 9.6 km. In 1978 a section of the canal was recognised as a monument of technology, and in 2011 as a Monument of History. It is the only still-functioning facility of its kind in the world.

Navigation season approx. 28 April - 30 September. The inclined planes are usually open daily approx. 8:00-19:00 (Buczyniec from 7:00).
