Historic street water pumps in Szczecin (berlinki)

Nearly 130 street water pumps have survived in Szczecin's urban space, 28 of which are entered in the register of monuments. They are a valuable testament to the development of the city's former water-supply infrastructure.

History

The water-supply network in Szczecin started operating in 1865, and towards the end of the 19th century wells were dug and pumps installed. The oldest of the surviving pumps are nearly 120 years old. The so-called berlinki were officially entered in the register of monuments in 2000.
