The Augustów Canal

One of the most important hydrotechnical monuments in Poland, built between 1824 and 1839 under the direction of General Ignacy Prądzyński. A waterway about 101 km long connecting the Biebrza with the Neman, with a system of 18 locks (14 in Poland) allowing a level difference of about 54 m to be overcome. In 2007 it was recognised as a Monument of History.
