Kampinos Forest

The Kampinos Forest (Puszcza Kampinoska) is a woodland complex located north-west of Warsaw, protected within the Kampinos National Park (established in 1959). The area stands out for its alternating belts of inland dunes and marshes, shaped by post-glacial processes.

Location and surroundings

The park lies in the Masovian Voivodeship, and its northern and eastern boundaries are marked by the Vistula valley. To the east it borders Warsaw.

Natural attractions

Pine forests dominate the sandy dunes, while wetlands and deciduous woodlands occur in the depressions. The park's symbol is the elk; beavers, lynxes and wolves also live here.
