Muskau Heath (Muskau Arch Geopark)

The Muskau Heath (Bory Mużakowskie) is a wooded area on the Polish-German border, situated within the Muskau Arch – a terminal moraine formed during the Middle Polish Glaciation and visible from space. The Polish part is protected by the Muskau Arch Landscape Park (established in 2001).

Location and surroundings

It covers the area around Łęknica, Trzebiel and Tuplice in the Żary district (Lubusz Voivodeship). The border with Germany is marked here by the Lusatian Neisse.

Natural attractions

Characteristic features are moraine ridges and post-mining water bodies with intense colours. Since 2015 the area has been inscribed on the UNESCO Global Geoparks list.
