Rominta Forest

The Rominta Forest (Puszcza Romincka) is a compact woodland complex in the northernmost corner of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, on the border of Masuria and the Suwałki region. About 2/3 of its area lies in the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia; the Polish part is protected by the Rominta Forest Landscape Park (established in 1998, area approx. 14,620 ha).

Location and surroundings

It stretches between Gołdap and Żytkiejmy, near the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast.

Natural attractions

Owing to its harsh, continental climate, the forest is sometimes called the "Polish taiga".
