Borecka Forest

The Borecka Forest is an extensive woodland complex in Masuria, covering about 250 km². Administratively it lies in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, spanning the municipalities of Węgorzewo, Kruklanki and Gołdap.

Location and surroundings

Kruklanki and the nearby villages serve as a base for excursions.

Natural assets

The forest is home to a free-roaming herd of bison, reintroduced since 1956; wolves, lynxes, elk, red deer and wild boar also occur here.
