Fir Primeval Forest

The Fir Primeval Forest is a globally unique complex of fir-beech woodlands covering the Łysogóry Range in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. Its area almost entirely coincides with the Świętokrzyski National Park (over 7,600 ha, of which more than 1,700 ha are under strict protection).

Location and surroundings

It lies in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in the Kielce County, on the ridge of the Łysogóry.

Natural assets

The characteristic tree is the silver fir, forming imposing stands here that mingle with beech, oak and Polish larch. The term "fir primeval forest" was introduced into literature by Stefan Żeromski.
