The Pszczyna Forest is a former woodland complex now covering about 25,000 ha, forming part of a continuous forest belt 20–30 km wide, stretching from Kędzierzyn to Oświęcim. It is a place of particular importance for bison conservation.
It lies in the Silesian Voivodeship; the bison breeding centre is located in Jankowice near Pszczyna.
In 1996 the "Żubrowisko" faunal reserve (about 742 ha) was established here – the largest nature reserve in Silesia. The Pszczyna bison breeding programme is the oldest in the world (since 1865) and played a key role in saving the species.
