Pyzdry Forest

The Pyzdry Forest is an extensive woodland complex in southern Greater Poland, on the right bank of the lower Prosna, stretching from Pyzdry to Brudzew and Stawiszyn. It covers the counties of Września, Kalisz, Konin, Pleszew and Słupca. In the past it covered about 44,000 ha; today the forests occupy around 26,000 ha, with the largest continuous block covering about 17,000 ha.

Olęder heritage

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Olęder (Dutch) settlers founded about 70 villages in the forest, cleared around 50% of the woodland and left behind characteristic architecture, including buildings made of bog iron ore.
