Murcki Forests

The Murcki Forests are an extensive forest complex covering an area of about 90 km² within the boundaries of Katowice, Tychy and Mysłowice. They form a fragment of the former Silesian Wilderness and the so-called Upper Pszczyna Forests. These are mixed forests with pine, beech, oak, birch, spruce and larch.

Nature conservation

The most valuable fragment is protected by the Murcki Forest nature reserve (acidic lowland beech forest, trees over 100 years old). Within the complex there are also the Ochojec reserve, the Płone Bagno ecological site and the Tadeusz Oak natural monument. It is a historic site of European bison reintroduction.
