The forests around Mielec and Kolbuszowa (Subcarpathian Voivodeship) form the central part of the former Sandomierz Wilderness, on the Kolbuszowa Plateau. These are extensive pine woods and mixed forests on sandy terrain, with numerous reserves (including "Buczyna" in Mokrzyszów and "Pateraki") protecting natural tree stands.
The area is open year-round, admission free.
