Rysy

Location and surroundings

Rysy is a peak in the High Tatras, on the Polish-Slovak border. The north-western summit, at 2499 m above sea level, is the highest point in Poland. The highest, central summit (2501 m) lies entirely within Slovak territory. The peak is located within the Tatra National Park.

Natural values and views

From the summit a broad panorama of the Tatras unfolds; in good visibility the view can reach even about 200 km. Rysy belongs to the Crown of the Polish Mountains and the Crown of Europe.

What to see

The classic Polish route leads from the shelter above Morskie Oko along the red trail past Czarny Staw pod Rysami and Bula pod Rysami, where safety chains have been installed. The most difficult section is just below the summit, at Przełączka pod Rysami.

A route for people in good physical condition and without a fear of heights; it requires experience in exposed terrain, and during the period of snow cover - winter equipment and skills.
