Wieżyca

Location and surroundings

Wieżyca (328.7 m above sea level) is the highest hill of the Kashubian Lake District and at the same time the highest natural summit of the Polish lake districts (excluding the artificial Kamieńsk Mountain). It lies in the Stężyca municipality (Kartuzy County, Pomeranian Voivodeship), on the ridge of the Szymbark Hills. It is a moraine hill.

What to see

About 30 m south of the summit stands the modern Kashubian John Paul II Observation Tower, which replaced the former wooden structure. The summit is covered by a beech forest; there is also a ski lift.

Natural values

Since 1962 the summit and selected slopes have been protected as a nature reserve (about 26.47 ha), safeguarding mainly acidophilous beech forest. The Szymbark Hills Trail runs across the hill.
