Bear Cave in Kletno

The Bear Cave is the largest cave open to visitors in Poland, located in the Śnieżnik Massif in the Eastern Sudetes, in the village of Kletno. The total length of its passages is about 4,500 m, with a vertical range of 118 m. The entrance is at an altitude of approx. 800–807 m above sea level.

Location and surroundings

The cave lies in the Stronie Śląskie municipality, in Kłodzko County. It was discovered by chance on 14 October 1966 during marble quarrying.

Natural features

The interior is adorned with impressive stalactites, stalagmites, stalagnates, cascades, domes, rimstone pools and flowstone draperies. Numerous bone remains of Pleistocene cave bears have been found in the cave, including a complete skeleton on display.

Who it is for

The tourist route, about 700 m long (the central sections of the cave), has been open to visitors since 1983, with a guide.
