Łokietek Cave

Łokietek Cave is the longest cave open to visitors in Ojców National Park, located in the Sąspowska Valley on the north-western slope of Chełmowa Mountain. The length of its corridors and chambers is 320 m, with a vertical range of 7 m. The entrance lies at an altitude of 453 m above sea level.

Location and surroundings

The cave is situated in the Skała municipality, near Ojców, within Ojców National Park. The largest chambers are the Knights' Hall (25 × 10 m) and the Bedroom (20 × 30 m). The interior temperature is 7-8°C.

Highlights and legend

The cave is linked to the legend of King Władysław Łokietek, who is said to have hidden here for about six weeks; according to the tale, a spider's web spun across the entrance misled his pursuers. The names of the chambers and a gate with a spiderweb motif commemorate this story.
