Mroczna Cave

Mroczna Cave is a landslide cave in the Beskid Niski range, in the Magura Wątkowska ridge, within the Kornuty nature reserve. Its length is 198 m and its vertical range 15.5 m, making it one of the longest caves discovered in the Beskid Niski.

Location and surroundings

The cave lies in the Sękowa commune, in Gorlice County, on the slope of Mount Kornuty, in the oldest reserve of the Beskid Niski (established in 1953). The reserve features fanciful rock forms of resistant sandstone, reaching up to 10 m in height.

Natural values

The cave formed as a result of landslide processes. It consists of numerous chambers (including the Insect Chamber, Grażyna Chamber, Chamber of Shadows) connected by corridors. It is an important winter shelter for many bat species.

Who it is for

The site is located in a nature reserve; access is restricted by protection rules, especially during the bat hibernation period.
