The Olsztyn Cave System

A cave system in the Sokole Góry (Falcon Mountains) in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, on the north-western slope of the Pustelnica hill, about 15 km south-east of Częstochowa.

  • Length: 240 m, vertical range 24 m
  • Four entrances
  • A karst cave in limestone

History

First described in 1836. At the end of the 19th century it was destroyed by intensive calcite mining (until 1932). In 1963 it was confirmed that originally separate hollows (including All Saints' Cave) form a single connected system.

  • The site lies within the Sokole Góry reserve managed by the State Forests - access to the interior is restricted by conservation regulations

Along trails through the Sokole Góry from the side of Olsztyn near Częstochowa.
