Caves and rock shelters on Mount Birów

A complex of caves and rock shelters on Mount Birów in Podzamcze near Ogrodzieniec in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Traces of settlement date back about 30,000 years - the caves were inhabited by reindeer and bear hunters.

  • The most interesting arrangement of chambers and passages is the so-called Northern Shelter (Cave IV)
  • Nearby is a reconstruction of a medieval stronghold (the Royal Stronghold on Mount Birów, since 2008)
