Morskie Oko

Location and surroundings

Morskie Oko is one of the most famous lakes of the Tatra Mountains, located in the Rybi Potok Valley in the Tatra National Park (Lesser Poland Voivodeship). It lies at an altitude of about 1,395 m above sea level.

Natural features

Area of about 32.9 ha, maximum depth about 50-51 m - the second largest lake in the Tatras. A glacial lake with greenish, clear water. The brown trout occurs here naturally. It is surrounded by the high peaks of the Tatras.

Who it is for

For hikers and mountain lovers; a starting point to the higher reaches (among others towards Rysy and Czarny Staw).

Access on foot or by horse-drawn carriage from the Palenica Białczańska car park along an asphalt road (about 9 km). By the lake is a PTTK mountain hut (from 1908). The rules of the Tatra National Park apply.
