Location and surroundings

Lake Żywiec (the Tresna Reservoir) is an artificial storage reservoir on the Soła River near Żywiec, on the border of the Żywiec Basin and the Little Beskids (Silesian Province). It was created in 1966 after a dam was built and villages including Tresna, Zarzecze and Zadziele were flooded.

Natural and tourist value

The earth dam is about 310 m long and around 39 m high; total capacity is about 94.6 million m³. Maximum depth is around 26.8 m, length about 6.6 km and the shoreline about 33.7 km. The reservoir serves flood-control, power-generation and recreational functions.

Who it's for

For sailors, beachgoers and tourists visiting the Beskids.

A hydroelectric power station operates at the dam; there are sailing bases and bathing areas nearby.
