Lake Turawa

Location and surroundings

Lake Turawa is an artificial reservoir on the Mała Panew River, about 20 km northeast of Opole, in the municipality of Turawa (Opole Province). It was built between 1933 and 1939.

Natural and tourist value

Its area is about 21-22 km², with a depth of up to around 13 m and a maximum capacity of about 107.6 million m³. The reservoir serves storage and recreational functions; it attracts beachgoers, sailors, surfers and anglers. The Mała Panew and Libawa rivers flow into it. The lake and its surroundings are designated a special protection area for birds.

Sometimes called a substitute for Masuria in the Opole region - for families, sailors and water-sports enthusiasts.

Nearby are the smaller lakes Średnie and Małe, created during the dam's construction.
