Żywiec Landscape Park

Żywiec Landscape Park was established on 13 March 1986. It protects the highest, deeply valley-dissected parts of the Żywiec Beskids near the border with Slovakia.

Area and location

The park covers 35,870 ha, and its buffer zone 21,790 ha. It lies within seven municipalities, including Ujsoły, Jeleśnia and Milówka.

Natural values

The central feature is the Pilsko massif, with numerous peaks above 1,000 m. There are ten reserves protecting beech woods, spruce forests and mountain meadows. Bears, wolves and lynxes live here, along with over 1,000 species of vascular plants.
