Chełm Landscape Park

The Chełm Landscape Park was established in 1983. It protects the unique carbonate (chalk) peat bogs and valuable forest complexes in Chełm County.

Area and location

The park covers 16,457 ha, with a buffer zone of 10,878 ha. It lies in Chełm County, within the municipalities of Chełm, Dorohusk, Sawin, Ruda-Huta and Kamień.

Natural values

Characteristic are the carbonate peat bogs dominated by great fen-sedge, pine forests, oak-hornbeam forests and riparian woods, as well as springs fed by the limestone bedrock. There are four nature reserves; 152 bird species live here, including the black stork, crane and aquatic warbler.
