Warta Mouth National Park

Warta Mouth National Park is the youngest national park in Poland, established in 2001 by merging the Słońsk reserve with part of the Warta Mouth Landscape Park. It protects the vast floodplains where the Warta flows into the Oder.

Location and surroundings

The park lies in the Lubusz Province, near Kostrzyn nad Odrą; its headquarters are in Chyrzyno.

What to see / natural values

  • Floodplains and wet meadows - one of the most important refuges for water and marsh birds in Poland
  • Over 240 bird species have been recorded, including many breeding and endangered ones (aquatic warbler, corncrake, black-tailed godwit, crane, bittern)
  • Wintering and resting grounds for geese and swans
