The Crooked Forest

The Crooked Forest is a natural monument comprising a group of around 100 Scots pines with characteristically bent trunks forming arches at their base. It is one of the best-known natural attractions of Western Pomerania, recognised worldwide (Crooked Forest).

Location and surroundings

The trees grow over an area of approx. 0.33 ha near the village of Nowe Czarnowo, close to the Dolna Odra Power Plant.

Natural value

  • Around 100 pines with an arched bend at a height of 10-50 cm above the ground
  • The age of the trees is estimated at approx. 90 years (probably planted in the 1930s)
  • The cause of the bends was most likely deliberate human action

An attraction for tourists, photographers and families.

A red hiking trail runs through the area. Since 2020, revitalisation work and improved access to the site have been carried out.
