The Józef Oak

The English oak "Józef" from Wiśniowa is a natural monument that won the Tree of the Year contest in 2016 and in 2017 became the first European Tree of the Year from Poland.

Location and surroundings

The tree grows in the upper, northern part of the manor and park complex in Wiśniowa, among other ancient oaks, below the burial chapel of the Mycielski family.

  • The age given on the plaque (650 years) is considered overestimated

The oak featured on the reverse of the pre-war 100 zł banknote; during World War II two Jewish brothers hid in its hollow.
