The Donnersmarck Yew

A common yew (Taxus baccata) near Kalety, in the Świerklaniec Forest District. The thickest tree of this species in the State Forests.

  • Trunk circumference: approx. 222 cm (2013)
  • Height: approx. 16 m
  • Age 500–600 years

History

Described in 1906 in Theodor Schube's "Waldbuch von Schlesien". A natural monument since 1989. The Donnersmarck family secured the tree with metal bands over 100 years ago.
