Lake Solina (Solina Reservoir)

Lake Solina, also called the Solina Reservoir or the "Bieszczady Sea", is the largest artificial water reservoir in Poland by volume. It was created on the San River, at the mouth of the Solinka, after the dam in Solina was built (filling began in 1968).

Location and surroundings

The reservoir lies in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, between the Sanok-Turka Mountains and the Western Bieszczady, in the Lesko and Bieszczady counties. Its area is about 22 km², and its shoreline about 166 km. The maximum depth reaches 60 m, and the reservoir is about 26.6 km long.

What to see / natural values

  • A concrete dam 82 m high and about 664 m long, with the largest reservoir capacity in Poland.
  • The Polańczyk health resort on the western shore.
  • Wooded, undulating shores and numerous bays.

For whom

A place for lovers of sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and pleasure-boat cruises. A quiet zone (no-motor zone) applies on the water.

Practical notes

During the filling of the reservoir, the villages of Solina, Teleśnica Sanna, Horodek and part of Wołkowyja, among others, were flooded.
