Lake Rożnów

Lake Rożnów is a dam reservoir on the Dunajec River, located about 12 km north of Nowy Sącz. It was created after a concrete dam was built in Rożnów (the reservoir has been operating since 1941).

Location and surroundings

The reservoir lies in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in the Nowy Sącz county. Its area is about 16 km² (1600 ha), its length 18-20 km, and its depth at the dam 30-35 m. It has a characteristic irregular, winding shape with numerous peninsulas and bays.

What to see / natural values

  • Steep, wooded shores.
  • Grodzisko Island ("Monkey Island").
  • Rich birdlife - many bird species nest in the area.
