Słup Reservoir (Lake Słup)

The Słup Reservoir is a retention reservoir on the Nysa Szalona River, located in the Sudeten Foreland, in the Męcinka municipality, about 1 km northwest of the boundaries of Jawor. The reservoir was created between 1974 and 1978 by damming the Nysa Szalona with an earth-and-concrete dam 940 m long and 21 m high. Its area is 4.9 km2, its capacity 38.69 million m3, and the length of its shoreline is 19 km.

Functions

The reservoir was built for flood protection and to regulate the flow of the Nysa Szalona. Its waters are excluded from recreation apart from angling (waters of the PZW Legnica anglers' association).

Historical trivia

Beneath the waters of the reservoir lie the remains of a palace where Marshal Blücher stayed before the Battle of the Katzbach in 1813.
