Tarnobrzeg Lake (formerly Machów Reservoir)

Tarnobrzeg Lake is a body of water in Tarnobrzeg, created by flooding a former sulphur mine excavation with water from the nearby Vistula. Its surface area is about 455 ha and its depth reaches 42 m. The reservoir was filled in 2009, and the name Tarnobrzeg Lake was officially given on 1 January 2013.

History

The villages of Machów and Kajmów once stood where the lake is today. The mine closure and land reclamation lasted from 1994.

Tourism

The lake's waters are among the cleanest in Poland. There are two guarded bathing areas, over 3 km of sandy beaches, the Kotwica sailing club, a diving base, a water-equipment rental, a rope park and playgrounds.
