In the lower course of the Brda, below the Koronowo Reservoir, there is a hydropower cascade comprising, among others, the Koronowo, Tryszczyn and Smukała steps. The reservoir in Tryszczyn and the Smukała reservoir (north of Bydgoszcz) are parts of this system of Brda impoundments.
The average water flow is shaped by the operation of hydropower plants in the Koronowo-Tryszczyn-Smukała cascade. The reservoirs serve power generation and recreation.
The waters lying in the Koronowo Reservoir Protected Landscape Area are popular among the residents of Bydgoszcz as places for leisure and angling.
