Mylof Reservoir (Zapora Reservoir on the Brda)

The Zapora Reservoir, called Mylof, is an artificial reservoir on the Brda river in the Tuchola Forest complex, in the Czersk commune, in the village of Zapora. It was created in 1848 and is considered the oldest artificial water reservoir in Poland built for economic purposes. It covers about 10.5 km2 as a widened channel of the Brda.

History and functions

The dam was built to irrigate the Czersk Meadows and to float timber from the Tuchola Forest. The water drop is 12 m, which enables the operation of the Mylof hydropower plant. A historic fish ladder and a timber-floating chute have been preserved here.

Tourism

The historic hydrotechnical structures from the mid-19th century and the location on the Brda canoeing trail make Mylof an attraction of Kashubia.
