Helskie Wydmy Nature Reserve

A floristic nature reserve on the Hel sandbar, established in 2006, with an area of 108.48 ha (including a beach buffer zone of about 7.62 ha). It protects the coastal dune landscape characteristic of the southern Baltic.

Location and surroundings

The reserve lies within the boundaries of the town of Hel, on the Hel sandbar (Hel Peninsula).

Natural value

It encompasses dune ecosystems: grasslands, heaths and pine forests. Five species of vascular plants under strict protection occur here, as well as rare lichens and lichen-dwelling fungi, including Taeniolella trapeliopseos, known from only a few sites in the world.
