Garden of Medicinal Plants of the Wrocław Medical University

The Garden of Medicinal Plants of the Wrocław Medical University (formerly the Medical Academy) is a scientific-research and teaching facility holding the status of a botanical garden, part of the Department of Biology and Pharmaceutical Botany. It was founded in 1946 on the initiative of Prof. Józef Mądalski, on the grounds of the former estate of the botanist Paul Rüster.

Collections

The garden covers approx. 25,000 m² (medicinal plant cultivation approx. 5,000 m²) on the edge of the Wielka Wyspa (Great Island), at the junction of Kochanowskiego and Wojciecha z Brudzewa streets. It numbers about 1,900 plant taxa divided into sections: systematics, raw materials, experimental, greenhouses, arboretum and alpine garden.

  • a fragment of natural riparian forest in the Czarna Woda valley

Access

The garden is not generally open - visits only for organised groups (among others due to poisonous plants).
