The IHAR Botanical Garden in Bydgoszcz is a garden covering approx. 5.5 ha belonging to the National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources, a unit of the Plant Breeding and Acclimatisation Institute (IHAR). IHAR has operated in Bydgoszcz since 1951, taking over the pre-war Municipal Botanical Garden; the current location was made available to the public in June 1977.
The garden gathers thousands of plant species from various climatic zones; its speciality (since 1971) is a collection of grass varieties. It holds one of the largest collections of cacti in Poland, a plant gene bank and a sensory garden with herbs.
Scientific in character - visits mainly for organised groups by prior arrangement; usually 2 open weekends per year.
