At the grounds of the Research Station of the M. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) in Mikołajki (the former hydrobiological station), an Arboretum is being developed - a forest botanical garden of a natural character, with a collection of native tree and shrub species. The station is listed in the register of botanical gardens of the General Directorate for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ).
The station is located on the western shore of Lake Mikołajskie, at the edge of the Pisz Forest, over an area of about 16.09 ha (mostly forested), by the border of the Masurian Landscape Park. The arboretum serves education about the biological diversity of the region through the trail 'Biodiversity of Masurian lakes and the Pisz Forest'.
