Zoological Garden in Leszno

A small, municipal zoological garden located within the Millennium Park in Leszno. Admission is free, and the site is open all year round.

History

The first animal collection was created in Leszno in 1903 at ul. Poniatowskiego. After interruptions connected with relocations and the war period, the zoo was reactivated in 1977 on the initiative of the city authorities. Between 1995 and 2002 the facility was modernised.

Animals

The collection focuses mainly on native species. As of 2010, the zoo presented 25 species (12 species of birds and 13 species of mammals). Its residents include, among others, wild boars, red deer, roe deer, swans, pheasants and ducks. In 2011, two brown bears were transferred to a centre in Germany due to insufficient infrastructure.
