Church of St. Paraskeva in Kwiatoń

A wooden Lemko church in Kwiatoń, considered a model and one of the most beautiful examples of the north-western Lemko type. In 2013 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Location and surroundings

Kwiatoń lies in the Uście Gorlickie municipality, in the Gorlice district, on the Wooden Architecture Route.

History

The church was built in the second half of the 17th century, and the towers were added in 1743. Originally Greek Catholic, after Operation "Vistula" (1947) it was taken over for Roman Catholic use. Renovations took place in 1811, 1904, 1967 and 2011, among others.

What to see

A wooden iconostasis by Michał Bogdański (1904) and his wall polychromes, three altars, a choir loft with a carved balustrade and a stone baptismal font from 1750.
