Church of Sts. Cosmas and Damian in Bartne

A wooden Greek Catholic church dedicated to Sts. Cosmas and Damian in Bartne, now serving as a museum. Bartne is an important centre of Lemko stonemasonry.

Location and surroundings

Bartne lies in a valley in the Lemko Region, in the Sękowa municipality, in the Gorlice district, on the Wooden Architecture Route of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. There are two wooden churches with the same dedication in the village - Greek Catholic (museum) and Orthodox (from 1928).

History

The Greek Catholic church was built in 1842. After 1947 (Operation "Vistula") it ceased to serve liturgical functions; after renovation in 1968-1970 it was made available as a museum.
