Greek Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Korczmin

A wooden Greek Catholic church dedicated to the Epiphany (Baptism of Christ) in Korczmin, in the Eastern Roztocze region. It is considered the oldest Greek Catholic church in the Lublin Voivodeship.

Location and surroundings

Korczmin lies in the Ulhówek commune, about 35 km east of Tomaszów Lubelski, close to the border with Ukraine. Next to the church are a mid-19th-century belfry and a Greek Catholic cemetery.

History

The first mention of the church in Korczmin dates from 1531; the present church was erected in 1658. From the 1960s the building was abandoned and fell into ruin; conservation work was undertaken in the 1990s, and a re-consecration took place on 28 August 2004. The miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Korczmin is now in Lublin.
