Orthodox Church of the Protection of the Mother of God in Hańczowa

A wooden Orthodox church in Hańczowa, formerly Greek Catholic, erected in the first half of the 19th century (on the site of an earlier one from the 17th century). It belongs to the Przemyśl-Gorlice diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church.

Architecture

It represents the Lemko church type (the younger variant of the north-western type). Log construction, walls covered with shingles, roofs of copper sheet, a characteristic silhouette with a tower over the narthex.

Surroundings

By the church there is a granite cross commemorating the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus (988-1988) and a plaque dedicated to those displaced during Operation Vistula.
