Passion and Marian Sanctuary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

An architectural and landscape complex and pilgrimage park inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, known as the Polish Jerusalem.

Location and surroundings

Located in the Maków Foothills in the Wadowice district. The Bernardine monastery is surrounded by Calvary paths with numerous chapels.

History

The sanctuary was founded in the early 17th century by Mikołaj Zebrzydowski. The monastery and the Calvary paths form one of the oldest Calvary-type pilgrimage complexes in Poland; the site was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 1999.

The basilica with the miraculous image of Our Lady of Kalwaria, the monastery, and the chapels along the Calvary paths.
