Camaldolese Monastery in Bielany

One of the two active Camaldolese monasteries in Poland, with the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, famous for its strict monastic rule.

Location and surroundings

Situated on a hill (Srebrna Góra) in the Bielany district of Kraków. The district's name derives from the monks' white habits.

History

The Camaldolese settled in Kraków's Bielany in the early 17th century. The monastery and church are in the Baroque style, and the order maintains a strict eremitic rule.

What to see

The Church of the Assumption of the BVM, the hermitages, and the crypts with the monks' tombs (access in accordance with the rule).
