Benedictine Abbey in Lubiń

One of the oldest Benedictine abbeys in Poland, an active centre of monastic life in Greater Poland.

Location and surroundings

Located in the village of Lubiń near Krzywiń, in southern Greater Poland.

History

The Benedictines came to Lubiń around 1070, probably brought by Bolesław the Bold from the abbey in Leodium (present-day Liège in Belgium). The abbey was an important centre of culture and literature.

The monastery church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the monastery, and the garden.

  • Guided tours 9:00-11:30 and 14:30-17:00 (until 16:00 in winter)
  • The church is not accessible during services (e.g. 12:15, 17:30, 18:30)
