Sanctuary on Święty Krzyż (Łysa Góra)

The oldest sanctuary in Poland, located on the summit of Łysa Góra in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, now cared for by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Location and surroundings

The monastery rises on Łysa Góra (Łysiec, 595 m a.s.l.), in the Łysogóry range, within the Świętokrzyski National Park.

History

According to tradition, the Benedictine monastery was founded in the early 11th century; it came to hold precious relics of the Wood of the Holy Cross, which remain the church's most important treasure to this day. The place was one of the most important pilgrimage centres of old Poland.
