Sanctuary in Niepokalanów

A Franciscan monastery founded by St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe, called the City of Mary, one of the largest monasteries in the world.

Location and surroundings

Located in Paprotnia in the Teresin municipality, about 40 km west of Warsaw.

History

The monastery was founded in 1927 by St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe. Niepokalanów became a publishing and media center (Knight of the Immaculate, Radio Niepokalanów). St. Maximilian died in 1941 in the German Auschwitz camp.
