Cistercian Abbey in Lubiąż

A monumental former Cistercian abbey, a masterpiece of Silesian Baroque, one of the largest sacred buildings in the world.

Location and surroundings

Located in Lubiąż on the Oder, in the Wołów municipality in Lower Silesia.

History

The Cistercians came to Lubiąż in the 12th century. The present Baroque complex was built mainly in the 17th-18th centuries; its façade is about 223 meters long. The painter Michael Willmann, known as the Silesian Rembrandt, is associated with the abbey.

What to see

The Ducal Hall, the refectory, the monastery church, the crypt, and works by Willmann.
