Former Cistercian Monastery Complex in Kołbacz

The oldest and largest Cistercian abbey in Western Pomerania, recognised as a Monument of History.

Location and surroundings

Located in Kołbacz, in the Gryfino County, near Szczecin.

History

The abbey was founded in 1173 by Warcisław II Świętoborzyc, the castellan of Szczecin from the Griffin dynasty. The architectural complex is compared to the finest monasteries of Mecklenburg and Brandenburg. In 2014, by decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, it was recognised as a Monument of History.
